Some Journeys Are Planned by Us. Some Journeys Are Written by Allah.
There are journeys we plan with our minds, and then there are journeys that feel as though they were written for us long before we ever thought about them.
Among the most beautiful is the journey to the sacred lands of Makkah and Madinah.
For a believer, reaching the Ka'bah is not simply travelling to another destination. It is a deeply spiritual experience—a moment when the heart stands before the House of Allah and realizes how small the world becomes in comparison to the greatness of its Creator.
“Why Me?”
Sometimes a person looks at others leaving for Umrah and quietly wonders:
“When will my turn come?”
Years may pass. Plans may change. Circumstances may seem difficult. Yet, when the time comes, everything can suddenly fall into place.
A passport is arranged. A visa is obtained. A flight is booked. The bags are packed.
And then comes the realization:
“I am really going to Makkah.”
That moment is difficult to describe in words.
Umrah Is More Than a Trip
A holiday ends when we return home.
But a sincere Umrah can change the way we look at life.
Standing before the Ka'bah can remind us of our purpose. Tawaf can remind us that our lives should revolve around obedience to Allah. Sa'i can remind us of the perseverance of Hajar (رضي الله عنها). The Talbiyah can remind us that we have answered a call of worship.
Every step can become a reminder.
Every dua can become a conversation with Allah.
Every tear can become a moment of repentance.
Leave Your Worries at the Door
Many pilgrims travel to the Haramain carrying invisible burdens.
Some carry worries about their families.
Some carry financial difficulties.
Some carry regrets from the past.
Some carry prayers they have been making for years.
And some simply want to feel close to Allah again.
The beauty of Umrah is that you can stand before Allah with all of these feelings.
You do not need perfect words.
Speak sincerely.
Ask Allah.
Cry if you need to.
Thank Him.
Seek His forgiveness.
And place your trust in Him.
The Most Precious Souvenir Is Not in Your Luggage
When returning from Umrah, pilgrims bring back dates, Zamzam and gifts for their loved ones.
But the greatest thing to bring home is something that cannot be purchased:
A changed heart.
A heart that remembers Allah more.
A heart that forgives more easily.
A heart that prays with greater sincerity.
A heart that has learned patience.
A heart that longs to return to the sacred places.
When You Return Home
The real test of an accepted spiritual journey is not simply the photographs we bring back.
It is the person we become after returning.
Let your Salah become stronger.
Let your tongue remember Allah more often.
Let your character become gentler.
Let forgiveness become easier.
Let your heart remain connected to the One whose House you visited.
Because the goal of Umrah is not only to visit the Haramain.
It is to allow the experience to bring us closer to Allah.
A Prayer for Every Pilgrim
May Allah invite every longing heart to His Sacred House.
May He make the journey easy for those who wish to perform Umrah.
May He accept the Umrah of every pilgrim.
May He forgive our sins, answer our duas, bless our families and fill our hearts with Iman.
And may Allah grant us the blessing of returning to Makkah and Madinah again and again.
Ameen Ya Rabbal Aalameen.
